What I liked about this story was it's a well written, quick, easy read. You are brought into the lives of the H/h immediately and I felt like I knew them. I thoroughly enjoyed His For The Taking and I will be looking for the next Harris Channing book.

His For The Taking edition by Harris Channing Romance eBooks Reviews

I have never read any other books from this author, but I will look for more in the future.

In His for the Taking, Julianna has a love/friendship relationship with Jonathan for ten years. Love on her side, friendship on his. It is a great story about not realizing what you have and may lose forever until its gone. The character are wonderfully described, you feel all of their emotions. It is a romantic short story with a tastefully described love scene that flows well with the story and of course a happy ending.

I would highly recommend this Regency Romance!
What a phenomenal book. I so enjoyed reading about Julianna and Jonathan. Left me wanting more!

Set in Surrey, England 1816 this romantic story is a uplifting and inspiring love story. Julianna Chesterfield is coming to terms with her younger sister Abby having just been married and leaving her for several months. Only to have Lord Jonathan Denbigh rub salt in a wound she prefer to kept to herself.
But now Jonathan has been confronted by Julianna's grandmother Lady Chesterfield and put in his place. Jonathan quite enjoys his bachelorhood. But when Lady Chesterfield gives him an ultimatum, Jonathan loses all rational. Which Jonathan decides is absurd and will not stand for losing his friend. When Jonathan finally comes to his senses will it be too late. Or will he just walk away and do as he usually does, find another skirt to chase?

This was such a wonderful read I just hope Harris Channing decides to continue their story in another book.
While reading this I could feel the angst and the hope of finding out if absence really makes the heart grow fonder?

Julianna has been friends with Jonathan since she was 13. She knows all of his faults, including his rakish ways, but secretly loves him anyway. Hoping that one day he will "see" her and give up the rogue's life. Julianna's grandmother is unwilling to wait forever for him to come to his senses so she whisks Julianna to London and the infatuated Nesbitt.

While the main story is very tightly and well written, I did find the romantic scene unnecessarily rushed. It actually wasn't even necessary except to add a bit of heat. Julianna was expecting people to arrive in an hour and it is expected that a virgin, after only two kisses, would succumb in such a way. It just seemed jarring and forced while the rest of the story had such a lovely rhythm.

So even though I thought the denouement was rushed, in more ways than one, the rest of the story more than makes up for it.

I recommend this story.
OMG! This little novella was surprisingly quite emotive. Julianna Chesterfield and Jonathan Denbigh have been friends since childhood, and she has loved him as long as she can remember. But, while Jonathan loves Julianna, he doesn't see her as a potential wife; instead he thinks he could no more marry Julianna than he could a sister!

Things come to a head when Julianna's younger sister and Jonathan's younger brother marry. Lady Chesterfield, Julianna's grandmother and guardian, comes to the realization that Julianna's relationship with Jonathan is detrimental to her granddaughter's marriage prospects. She confronts Jonathan and demands that he either marry Julianna or leave her alone. Jonathan is obtuse as only a man can be (sorry fellas, LOL.) He refuses to be forced into marriage and thinks Lady Chesterfield is making a mountain out of a molehill.

When next he sees Julianna, to prove there is nothing but friendship between them, he kisses her then announces "You see, we are nothing but friends." That was such a heart-wrenching moment for me, as poor Julianna's heart was broken. Lady Chesterfield then whisks Julianna off London, where she is hoping for a match between Julianna and a young man of good family who is enamored of her granddaughter.

When Jonathan realizes Julianna is gone and he has no idea how to contact her, he is angry, frustrated, and lost. As time passes, he is forced to acknowledge that what he feels for Julianna is more than friendship. But, before the two can have any kind of future together, he must first find his errant friend.

This short story is a nice, quick, extremely poignant--for me--read. I thought the beginning of the story was very touching. Ms. Channing did an excellent job getting me to connect to Julianna and experience her angst. I absolutely loved the way Lady Chesterfield brought the relationship between Julianna and Jonathan to a head. No doubt if that formidable lady had not stepped in, Jonathan would still be as clueless today, and Julianna would still be hanging by his side accepting whatever crumbs of friendship he tossed her way.

My only complaint is that I wish Julianna had made Jonathan work a little bit harder to win her once he had found her. Nevertheless, considering the short length of the book, I guess it was done well enough.

Although relatively short, this book encompasses a fully developed story, with three dimensional characters. I loved it and highly recommend it. FYI, this is not a clean romance; there is a love scene. Happy reading!
